"Tipperary Water" County Hurling League, Division (2) (Group 1)
By Ed Donnelly
Moycarkey-Borris produced a dominant second half performance to secure a seven-point victory over Carrick Swan in the County Senior Hurling League played at a sunny Littleton field on Sunday afternoon.

Carrick Swan started the game well and raced in to a 0-5 to 0-3 lead after 10 minutes. Moycarkey’s chances were disrupted by two enforced substitutions in the opening stages as Matty Ryan and Niall O’Sullivan were forced off through injury to be replaced by Daniel Kirby and Kieran Cummins respectively. It didn’t take long for Kirby to get in to the action and he was fouled for a penalty in the 11th minute with Kieran Morris dispatching the resultant placed ball to the back of the net to give Moycarkey the lead, 1-4 to 0-5. Moycarkey stretched their lead to three points entering the second quarter but Carrick Swan took over the game for most of the remainder of the opening half, outscoring Moycarkey by 0-7 to 0-1 before a late Pat Carey point put the Carrick side in front at the interval by 0-13 to 1-8.

Carrick scored two of the first three points of the second half to go in to a three-point lead. However, Moycarkey would totally take over the game at this point, scoring an unanswered 1-7 over an 18-minute period to race in a seven-point lead. Kieran Morris was in accurate form throughout this purple patch while Anthony McKelvey scored the Moycarkey goal. During this period of play, Kevin Moran and the Carrick Swan wing-back received straight red cards following a fracas involving several players. The scores kept coming for Moycarkey as the home side took an 11-point lead heading in to the final stages. Carrick Swan to their credit kept pushing for goals to get back in to the game and they were duly rewarded with a green flag in the 59th minute. It was too little, too late however as Moycarkey were seven points in front at the final whistle.

Under 16 Footballers
Golden Kilfeacle GAA Club was the venue for the Under 16 A County Football Final on a hot and windy Saturday afternoon. Moycarkey’s County Final came on foot of a victory over Inane Rovers in the Semi Final on a score line of Moycarkey-Borris 1-17 Inane Rovers 2-8. Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen were the opponents having won the other Semi Final.

Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen were straight to the scoreboard within the first minute when they raised the green flag which was to be shortly followed by a point for Christopher English. Darragh Brennan, Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen was next to the score board when he hit the ball between the posts for another point. By the sixth minute Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen had a goal and two points and Moycarkey were still searching for their scores. Kyle Shelly did not leave them waiting and in the seventh Moycarkey had their first score to be followed by a pointed free in the ninth, Moycarkey had settled. However, it was the twenty first minute before the next score a green flag for Kyle Shelly. The next Moycarkey score would come from some excellent teamwork when a ball caught by Max Hackett passed to Michael O’Donnell would find itself in the path of Kyle who expertly hand punched the ball over his head into the back of the goal mouth. Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen’s Christopher English pointed to bring the margin back to two before Kyle’s hat trick of goals came in the twenty sixth minute. Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen added a further three points to their score line to go in at half time Moycarkey Borris 3-2 Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen 1-6.

As anyone knows a margin of two points in any game is not enough so both teams would have to work hard in the second half and again Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen were first to the score board with two quick points in the opening minutes to level proceedings. Kevin Hayes pointed Moycarkey’s first point of the second half to regain the lead for Moycarkey. Another pointed free from Kyle Shelly restored the two point margin. The game was about to change when Kevin Hayes, a sterling player for Moycarkey received a black card for a tackle. Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen soon equalised when Christopher English and Darragh Brennan scored two points in the twelfth and thirteenth minute. As the game turned into the final quarter John Coffey put Moycarkey back in front with a point, just the score they needed as this drove the team on further with points from substitution Andrew Alexander and Kyle Shelly. Moycarkey held the three point margin but Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen worked tirelessly to get a score and in the twenty fourth minute were rewarded when Darragh Brennan netted the ball for them to equalise. No matter what Moycarkey did the scores evaded them for the final minutes and Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen added a point to claim the victory; Clonmel Óg/Ballyporeen 2-11 Moycarkey Borris 3-7.
