Moycarkey Borris GAA Club Notes - 22nd August 2016

Senior Hurling
On Saturday last Loughmore Castleiney defeated Moycarkey Borris in the Dr Fogarty Cup in Templetuohy on a scoreline of Loughmore Castleiney 0-18 Moycarkey Borris 1-12.

On Sunday, August 28th they will take on Upperchurch Drombane in the CM Signs Cahill Cup Semi Final in Boherlahan at 1pm.

Minor A Hurling
Moycarkey Borris have earned themselves a place in the Thurles Credit Union Mid Tipperary Minor A Semi Final following their defeat over JK Brackens on Tuesday last. Their competitors will be decided when Thurles Sarsfields and Loughmore Castleiney meet in their final round game of the competition on Wednesday, August 17th. 

The host team, JK Brackens opened the scoring in the third minute with a point from Lyndon Fairbrother. The sides traded two further points each. In the eighth minute Anthony McKelvey struck a free off the goalpost bar, it rebounded back to him and he netted the ball. Denis Russell replied for JK Brackens with a point reducing the margin to two points. Moycarkey retained the lead until the sixteenth minute when David O’Shea raised the green flag for the Brackens swinging the two point margin in their favour. Two further points were traded by each team until the twenty second minute when John Cussen’s point reduced the margin to a single point. Three unanswered points in the next five minutes stretched the margin to four points and three minutes left. Moycarkey’s Anthony McKelvey (2), John Kirwan and Michael Murphy pointed in the three minutes to equalise the game at the end of normal time. The final point of the half went to Lyndon Fairbrother. JK Brackens opened the scoring with two quick points bringing the margin back to three points but Kevin O’Regan opened Moycarkey’s scoring in the third minute. In the following eight minutes Moycarkey scored four points to JK Brackens two pointed frees and the score line was level for the second time. The game ebbed and flowed for the following ten minutes with two points added to each score line. The intensity of the game had increased with nothing between the sides. Anthony McKelvey’s pointed free in fifty first minute put Moycarkey back in front. In the fifty seventh minute, points were traded and two further pointed frees from Anthony McKelvey were added in normal time. Kevin O’Regan scored the last point of the game in injury time sealing Moycarkey’s victory. Moycarkey Borris 1-22 JK Brackens 1-18.

Under 13
Moycarkey Borris will compete against Gortnahoe-Glengoole in the Under 13 Shield Competition on Thursday, August 25th in Gortnahoe at 7.00pm

County Under 14, 15, 16 and 17 teams
Saturday, August 27th will see a number of County Tipperary hurling teams in action. In the Tony Forrestal Under 14 Competition in Waterford, Moycarkey Borris will be represented by players Kyle Shelly and Kyle Ryan and mentor Noel McKelvey. In the Under 15 Competition from Moycarkey Borris are players Darren Flood, Max Hackett, Jack Morrissey, Kevin Hayes and Peter Melbourne with mentor Dermot Maher. Tipperary will host the Annual Under 16 Inter County Hurling tournaments and playing for the County are Jack Fallon, Rory Darmody, Rhys Shelly, John Kirwan and Zach Jackson. Galway is the venue for the Under 17 Competition with Anthony McKelvey representing Moycarkey Borris.

Camogie and Ladies Football Club

Moycarkey Borris Camogie & Ladies Football Club have been selected as one of the sporting clubs in the Tesco Community Fund. Every time you shop in your local Tesco store in Thurles, you will receive a token of goodwill to place in the donation box of Moycarkey Borris. After six weeks, the number of tokens are counted and up to €1,000 is distributed proportionally between three local causes. The more tokens we enter the larger share of the donation we will receive. Junior A Ladies Football
Moycarkey Borris Junior A team will play Thurles Sarsfields in the Tipperary Ladies Football Junior A Semi Final on Thursday, August 25th in Thurles Sars (outside field) at 7.15pm.

U16 Ladies Football
Moycarkey Borris Under 16 team will compete against Lattin Cullen in the Under 16 Tipperary Ladies Football Summer League Quarter Final on Saturday, August 27th at a venue and time to be confirmed.

Under 14 Camogie

Congratulations to Moycarkey Borris Camogie & Ladies Football Club Under 14's who defeated Borrisoleigh in the Tipperary Camogie Autumn League.
Moycarkey Borris panel – Emma Shelly, Roisin Donnelly, Joan O’Keeffe, Enya Maher, Queva O’Meara, Chloe Cummins, Lauryn O’Sullivan, Sarah Hayes, Zoe O’Meara, Sophie Long, Ciara Coffey, Amy Britton and Leah Walsh.

Under 10
It was a busy week for our Under 10’s. They travelled to Moyle Rovers last Thursday evening for a football challenge. Well done to everyone. Thank you to Moyle Rovers for hosting.
On Saturday last they took part in the County Camogie Blitz at The Ragg. Both our teams got to play three competitive matches. Thanks to Ciara Johnston for organising.
On Monday, August 15th they travelled to Holycross for a Football Challenge. A big thank you to all our supporters who travelled and encouraged all the girls at these games.

Community Games Long Puck
Congratulations to Michelle Flanagan who finished 8th in the All Ireland Community Games Girls Long Puck in Athlone.
