Moycarkey Borris GAA Club Notes - 29th August 2016

Senior Hurling
On Friday evening last Moycarkey Borris hosted Upperchurch Drombane in the CM Signs Cahill Cup Semi Final and by mutual agreement both clubs played their Under 21 teams.

Even though hosted on home ground Upperchurch dominated the first five minutes with points from Niall Grant, Seamus Armstrong and Robert Murphy. In the fifth minute a pointed free by Niall Heffernan starting Moycarkey’s scoring and it was followed by a pointed free from Anthony McKelvey and two points from Mattie Ryan and Eoghan Hayes. In the tenth Niall Heffernan netted the ball stretching Moycarkey’s lead to four points. Another pointed free was traded with Upperchurch before Moycarkey hit another purple patch scoring four unanswered points before the twenty first minute. The sides traded two points in the next five minutes. Upperchurch scored three points to Moycarkey’s single point in the final five minutes of the first half leaving the half-time score - Moycarkey Borris 1-12 Upperchurch Drombane 0-9.

The opening ten minutes were Upperchurch’s with four points to Moycarkey’s two pointed frees from Niall Heffernan. Moycarkey’s Kevin O’Regan got the next two points to return the game to a six point margin. Upperchurch took control of the game again and for the next five minutes dominating on the score board with three points from Jack Butler and a point from Niall Grant bringing the game back to two points. In the forty ninth minute Kevin O’Regan pointed to keep the goal between the sides. In the final six minutes of the game of the Niall Heffernan single handed looked after the score board with three pointed frees and a single point from play to close the game at Moycarkey Borris 1-21 Upperchurch Drombane 0-17.

Thurles Credit Union Minor A Hurling
The Semi Finals of the Thurles Credit Union Minor A Hurling has been decided with Holycross Ballycahill competing against Moycarkey Borris and Na Sairsealaigh Og against JK Brackens Og. These Semi Finals will be played on Wednesday 7th September.

Under 12
Well done to all the Under 12's players who took part in the Munster GAA Activity Day at Semple Stadium on Monday, August 22nd. Moycarkey-Borris won all of their four games against opposition clubs from Limerick, Clare, Waterford and Tipperary. It was a great way to finish the Under 12's season with memorable day in Semple Stadium. The Under 12’s are a super panel of boys and all their coaches are very proud of all twenty seven players involved in this season. The group now look forward to Under 11 and Under 13 competitions.

Under 8
Well done to our Under 8 team who played Boherlahan in an uncompetitive game on Saturday last in Littleton. All the players had an opportunity to show the skills they are learning in training and they had good fun.

Under 6
As hosts to Boherlahan Under 8’s our Under 6’s availed of the opportunity to play a uncompetitive challenge game with their Under 6’s. Well done to all the players who had an enjoyable morning. Moycarkey players – Emma, Jack, Dylan, Jake, Max, Peter, Darragh, Tommie, Dylan, Jayden, Sean, Con, Evan, Sam and Mel.

County Under 14, 15, 16 and 17 teams
In the Tony Forristal Under 14 Competition in Waterford Tipperary reached the Sonny Walsh Semi Final competing against Kildare. The game finished level, Tipperary 1-7 Kildare 2-4 so penalties were required to separate the teams. Unfortunately, Tipperary were defeated in the sudden death penalties. Well done to the Moycarkey members who represented Tipperary on the day; players Kyle Shelly and Kyle Ryan and mentor Noel McKelvey.
The Tipperary Under 15 team met stronger teams on the day being overcome by Cork and Limerick. The Moycarkey Borris members were players Darren Flood, Max Hackett, Jack Morrissey, Kevin Hayes and Peter Melbourne with mentor Dermot Maher.
In the Arrabawn Under 16 Competition Tipperary entered two teams with Jack Fallon, Moycarkey Borris playing in midfield for Tipperary A who won their three group games to qualify for the semi-final versus Galway. The Tribesmen were the stronger team and won on a score line of Galway 4-9 Tipperary 1-9.
Tipperary B reached the John Doyle Final where they comprehensively overcame Cork on a scoreline of 3-14 to 1-7. The Moycarkey Borris players on Tipperary B were Rory Darmody, Rhys Shelly, John Kirwan and Zach Jackson.
Congratulations to Anthony McKelvey, Moycarkey Borris who represented Tipperary in the Under 17 Competition. Tipperary won the Plate Final, Tipperary 2-13 Limerick 4-4.

Camogie and Ladies Football Club

Moycarkey Borris Camogie & Ladies Football Club have been selected as one of the sporting clubs in the Tesco Community Fund. Every time you shop in your local Tesco store in Thurles, you will receive a token of goodwill to place in the donation box of Moycarkey Borris. Commiserations to Moycarkey Borris Junior A team who were defeated by Thurles Sarsfields in the Tipperary Ladies Football Junior A Semi Final on Thursday last.

Congratulations to Moycarkey Borris who overcame Carrick Swans in a Camogie Tournament in Carrick Swans on Tuesday, August 23rd.

In the Tipperary Ladies Football Summer League Finals which were played in Blitz format in Clonmel Og on Saturday last Moycarkey Borris Under 16 team were victorious over Clonmel Og in the Final.

Under 12 Camogie and Ladies Football
Congratulations to Moycarkey Borris Camogie & Ladies Football Club Under 12 team who overcame Fethard in the Tipperary Camogie Autumn League. On Friday last they also defeated Ballybacon Grange in the Tipperary Camogie Autumn League in Goatenbridge.
On Sunday last in Fethard, Moycarkey-Borris Under 12 Ladies Footballers won the Tipperary Ladies Football Under 12 Summer League Final following a comprehensive victory over Lattin.

Under 8
On Monday, August 22nd the Moycarkey Under 8 team travelled to Templemore to play in a Ladies Football Blitz. Moycarkey players - Ruby O’Dwyer, Eva Ralph, Sarah Carroll, Ella Lee, Erin Flanagan and Sadhbh McGrath.
On Wednesday last they hosted Holycross Ballycahill Ladies Football Club in a challenge match displaying all their skills and having fun.
