Report by Ed Donnelly

A dominant second half performance helped Moycarkey-Borris to qualify for their second successive Seamus O’Riain Cup Final. Played at Leahy Park Cashel, Golden had the advantage of the wind in the first half and matched Moycarkey in every sector, edging in front in first half injury time. Brian Moran scored a late point from play to finish the scoring and leave the sides level at the interval – 0-9 to 0-9.

The second half was only 12 seconds old when Pat Carey raised a green flag for Moycarkey after a good passing move. Within a few minutes, Rory Ryan had scored Moycarkey’s second goal and with wind advantage, Moycarkey now took control of the game. With David Sheppard, Rory Ryan and Kieran Morris in great form up front, the scores began to flow. At the same time, Golden were unable to now make any impression up front, being restricted to one pointed free in the entire second half.

Further goals for Moycarkey, the first by Anthony Healy (I think) followe by another from Pat Carey ended the game as a contest and Moycarkey qualified for a final date with old rivals Boherlahan-Dualla. The best for Moycarkey-Borris on the day were Kevin Moran, Ailbe Power, Brian Moran, Rory Ryan, David Sheppard and Kieran Morris.
