Moycarkey-Borris qualified for the final of the Dr. Fogarty Senior Hurling Cup with a hard earned five point victory over their hosts Killenaule on Friday evening.

On an overcast, showery evening, Killenaule had the aid of the wind in the first half but it was Moycarkey-Borris who raced in to a two point lead early on thanks to white flags from Pat Ralph and Kieran Morris. Killenaule got off the mark with a point in the fourth minute but a Daniel Guinan goal put them in front after six minutes. This score gave the home side a boost as they dominated the next ten minutes, taking a 1-5 to 0-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Moycarkey reduced the lead to a solitary point with white flags from Kieran Morris and Rory O’Regan before an Anthony Healy goal in the 23rd minute put Moycarkey in front. As the first half drew to a close, Moycarkey scored 5 of the next 7 points to go in four points to the good at half-time, 1-11 to 1-7.

With wind advantage and the showers becoming more frequent, Moycarkey stretched their lead to 1-13 to 1-8 in the opening stages of the second half. However, Moycarkey would not score again for 11 minutes as Killenaule began to dominate proceedings scoring five unanswered points to bring the sides level heading in to the final quarter – 1-13 to 1-13.

Kieran Morris and Pat Ralph put Moycarkey back in front before Killenaule got one back in the 50th minute. With a tight finish expected, instead it was Moycarkey who went in to overdrive, scoring six unanswered points to assume control of the game. Killenaule would score three of the last four points of the game but were unable to breach the Moycarkey defence for a goal and at the final whistle, Moycarkey were five point winners.
