Boherlahan Dualla was the venue for the Mid Tipperary Under 16 B Shield Final on Sunday last. In a very tight competitive game, Moycarkey Borris and Thurles Gaels could not be separated, Moycarkey Borris 2-3 Thurles Gaels 1-6. Both teams are no strangers to each other and have competed against each other since playing at Under 14 level providing close encounters each time.

Daniel Brown opened Moycarkey’s scoring when he pointed a free in the fifth minute. The game ebbed and flowed from end to end until the end of the first quarter when Ben O’Dwyer netted the ball for Moycarkey. Thurles Gaels had yet to find their rhythm but in the twentieth minute Cian Gleeson commenced their scoring with an excellently placed ball in the back of the net. From the resulting puck out, the ball was worked in to John Coffey and he raised Moycarkey’s second green flag. For the final ten minutes both sets of defenders safeguarded their goals and neither team added to their score line before the half time whistle, Moycarkey Borris 2-1 Thurles Gaels 1-0.

Thurles Gaels now had wind assistance for the second half and piled the pressure on to the Moycarkey-Borris defence. While the Gaels were struggling from play, the concession of numerous frees by the Moycarkey gave Chris Munroe of Thurles opportunities from placed balls. Munroe duly obliged, scoring five pointed frees and a ’65 to put his side in to a two point lead heading in to the last five minutes. In the fifty sixth minute, Moycarkey registered their first score of the second half which was a point from play for Shane Bourke. This was closely followed by a pointed free for Moycarkey’s, Daniel Brown to equalise the game. Time ran out for both teams to get the next score so the game finished level.
