posted 2 Aug 2017, 14:26 by Michelle Donnelly
In Moycarkey Borris’s final group game of the Thurles Credit Union Mid Tipperary Minor A Hurling Championship they hosted Na Sairsealaigh Óg on Wednesday evening. Moycarkey Borris were first on the scoresheet with a Darren Flood point in the opening minute which was quickly followed by an Anthony McKelvey goal. Na Sairsealaigh Óg were next to the scoresheet with a point but a well-placed pass from Anthony McKelvey to John Kirwan meant another green flag for Moycarkey. A pointed free for Moycarkey on the fifth minute gave them a seven point lead. For the following ten minutes the ball flowed from end to end with only Na Sairsealaigh Óg registering two unanswered points. As the first quarter ended both teams traded points. Moycarkey’s five point cushion was taken from them when in the eighteenth minute Na Sairsealaigh Óg scored a point and a goal. Two more points from frees by Anthony McKelvey kept them in the driving seat but in the final three minutes of the half Na Sairsealaigh Óg registered three points to go in at half time, Moycarkey Borris 2-5 Na Sairsealaigh Óg 1-8.

The second half was anyone’s game with both sides evenly matched in this tight contest. The opening score went to Na Sairsealaigh Óg, a point. Max Hackett matched this in the following minute and points were traded again in the thirty fifth minute. Na Sairsealaigh Óg went ahead for the first time in the game in the thirty sixth minute when they scored a goal. Points from Anthony McKelvey (2 frees) and Max Hackett equalised the game again. Another free in the forty first minute put Moycarkey back ahead and they built on this with two more points from Max Hackett and Anthony McKelvey (free). Na Sairsealaigh Óg, however, were never gone far and two quick points in the forty seventh minute equalised the game. Another point shortly after saw Na Sairsealaigh Óg out in front again but a pass received by Anthony McKelvey saw the back of the net. While Moycarkey supporters were celebrating the score the resultant puck out travelled down the field and a miss hit by Na Sairsealaigh Óg rolled over the line into the Moycarkey goal. Na Sairsealaigh Óg were back in front again. The sides traded a further two points each but Na Sairsealaigh Óg took the victory by a single point. Na Sairsealaigh Óg 3-15 Moycarkey Borris 3-14.

There is still one game to be played in the competition between JK Brackens and Holycross-Ballycahill which will be played next week, this will determine the Semi Final line-up.
