Moycarkey-Borris qualified for the County Minor Hurling Final following a comprehensive 14-point victory over the South Champions Moyle Rovers on Saturday in Golden.

Moycarkey dominated the early exchanges and following a number of spurned goal chances, Anthony McKelvey raised a green flag in the 7th minute as Moycarkey led by 1-3 to 0-1. Moyle Rovers recovered well and following a pointed free by Ben Owens, Luke Delahunty scored three points from play on the trot to leave just a point between the teams after 17 minutes, 1-3 to 0-5.

Darren Flood recorded Moycarkey’s first score in 11 minutes when he pointed from play in the 19th minute before McKelvey struck for his and Moycarkey’s second goal a minute later to leave five points between the teams, 2-4 to 0-5. Moyle Rovers were still playing well and they traded score for score with their Mid opponents heading in to first half injury time. In the additional three minutes played, Moycarkey added unanswered points from play by Bill Maher, Jack Fallon and Mark Heffernan to give the Moycarkey side an unflattering seven-point interval lead, 2-9 to 0-8.

Moycarkey opened the second half scoring with a pointed ‘65 after Darren Flood’s goal chance had been deflected moments earlier. From the resultant puckout, Moyle Rovers Rian Quigley gained possession and following a good run, hit an unstoppable shot to the net to leave the score 2-10 to 1-8. Moycarkey responded with points by McKelvey, Max Hackett and Darren Flood before two goals in a minute by Anthony McKelvey ended the game as a contest with Moycarkey in front by 4-13 to 1-8 after 40 minutes.

Both teams emptied the benches in the final 20 minutes with 10 subs being introduced which affected the flow of the game as each side added five points in the closing stages. When referee Peter Carroll blew for full-time, Moycarkey had booked their play in next weekend’s County Final where Roscrea will be the opponents.
